The Linda Lear Center for Special Collections and Archives provides access to rare books, manuscripts, and the College’s history. In addition to the College Archives, holdings of the Lear Center focus on environmental and women's studies, local history and literature, and fine press printing and artists’ books. Our collections include over 24,000 rare books, more than a thousand linear feet of archival material, and several art collections.

Located on the second floor of Shain library, the Lear Center provides space for research, instruction, and exhibitions. We welcome the Connecticut College community, other researchers, and members of the public. While primary consideration is given to those using Lear Center materials, the reading room may also be used for quiet study.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Linda Lear Center for Special Collections and Archives is to maintain the history and support the teaching mission of Connecticut College by developing, preserving, and promoting the College’s special collections and archives to the College community and outside researchers.
