  • ED I Admitted Students

Early Decision I students lay foundation for strong Class of 2024

This year, more students than ever committed to Connecticut College through the Early Decision I application process.

Conn received more ED I applications in 2019 than in 2018, and from that pool, admitted the first 207 members of the Class of 2024.

Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Andy Strickler says the ED process benefits both the students and the College.

"With increasing access to information about colleges all over the world, high school seniors seem to have more choices to consider every year," he says. "But for some students, the search wraps up quickly because they identify the college with weeks or months left before Regular Decision applications are due.

"That's a relief for those students—they can focus on other aspects of their senior year—and it's great for Conn because we have a strong group laying the foundation for the incoming class."

The early members of the Class of 2024 include more students of color, both from the U.S. and abroad, and more first-generation students than previous classes. Strickler attributes these milestones to Conn's sustained efforts to expand its inclusive and equitable community, as well as the addition of a second Posse cohort, this one from New York City. For the last 10 years, the College has welcomed groups of high-achieving, diverse students from Chicago through a partnership with The Posse Foundation. This year it will double that commitment with a Posse from New York.

"Our Posse students have made an indelible impact on campus as student leaders, change agents, social justice drivers and academic superstars," Strickler says. "We're all very excited to welcome the New York City Posse to campus next fall."

Prospective students have another opportunity to apply Early Decision: Conn’s ED II deadline is Jan. 1, 2020, and decisions will be released in mid-February.
