Camels to host NESCAC Championship

Alex Robles ’23 set up a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner scored by Steve Yeonas ’23, to lead the Connecticut College men’s soccer team to a 2-1 win against Williams College in the NESCAC tournament’s quarterfinal match on a wet Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field.

With the victory, the top-seeded Camels advanced to the semifinal round, which Conn will host for the first time in program history.

Williams controlled the start of the match before the Camels began to counter. Conn hit the crossbar from a corner kick in the 24th minute, and Jack Kelesoglu ’25 later scored off a corner by heading home Robles’ cross in the 44th minute. The Camels took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

Conn goalie Sam Maidenberg ’23 made four saves for the Camels, who advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2015.

Conn will host the remaining three matches of the NESCAC tournament, which will include two semifinal matches on Saturday, Nov. 6, and the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 7.

No. 3 Tufts and No. 4 Middlebury will face off in the first semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The Camels will play seventh-seeded Colby in the second semifinal at 1:30 p.m. The winners of Saturday’s matchups will play for the NESCAC Championship at noon on Sunday.

All games will be played on Freeman Field and are free and open to the public. Visitors are asked to please review and follow Conn’s COVID-19 spectator policies.
