Matt Carter ’23 and Malissa Lindsey ’23 named CSC Academic All-Americans

Matt Carter ’23 and Malissa Lindsey ’23 have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Division III Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team and Division III Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team, respectively.

Carter, who graduated in May with a degree in physics, landed a spot on the second team. A total of 50 student-athletes from across the country were honored at the Division III level, as determined by a vote of sports information directors.

Carter is the second men’s track & field/cross country athlete in program history to earn CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America® recognition, joining Michael LeDuc ’14, who earned the honor three times.

A nine-time NESCAC All-Academic award recipient, Carter graduated summa cum laude with a 3.97 grade point average. He was inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa, and was awarded the David G. Fenton Physics/Astronomy Prize for exceptional academic performance within the Physics Department. 

Athletically, Carter earned All-America status at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, becoming the sixth runner in program history to earn the honor. Across two sports, Carter racked up All-NESCAC honors twice, All-New England accolades three times, and qualified for the NCAA Championships three times.

Lindsey, who graduated in May with a degree in sociology, also earned a spot on the second team and was one of 54 student-athletes from across the country to be honored at the Division III level.

Lindsey is the third women’s track & field/cross country athlete in program history to earn CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America® recognition, joining Kelsey Taylor ’11 and Kim Bolick ’15.

The honor caps an illustrious career for Lindsey, one of the most distinguished athletes in Conn history. After having her first two years abbreviated due to COVID-19, Lindsey put together a spectacular 2022 campaign, becoming a three-time All-New England honoree and an NCAA qualifier during the indoor season. She followed with an even more impressive outdoor season, winning three NESCAC titles and two New England Championships. Lindsey also made her second trip to the NCAAs, where she recorded a runner-up finish in the 100, the best result in program history. She added a third-place outcome in the 200 to cement her legacy as a multi-time All-American. As a senior, Lindsey added New England, regional and NESCAC honors to her athletic resume. In total, Lindsey finished her Camels career as a two-time NCAA All-American, seven-time All-New England honoree, and a five-time All-NESCAC performer—including three championships. She also set six school records. 

Off the track, Lindsey excelled in the classroom, registering a 3.95 grade point average throughout the course of her academic tenure. Additionally, she served as a member of the Connecticut College Athletes of Color Coalition and is a recipient of the Posse Foundation Leadership Scholarship.
