All seven of Conn’s A Cappella groups—Co Co Beaux, Conn Artists, The ConnChords, ConnArtists, Miss Connduct, The Shwiffs, Vox Cameli and Williams Street Mix—took to the stage for their Fall Weekend concert on Tempel Green. Each group performed two pieces and introduced new members.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Professor of Botany and Environmental Studies Manuel Lizarralde, left, helps Valerie Braxton-Gambrell of the Eastern Pequot Nation with a serving of lasagna as the Conn community celebrates Indigenous Peoples’ Day in the 1941 Room. The event included speakers from the three local tribes—Eastern Pequot, Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan— as well as a harvest and educational activity at the Sprout Garden, food sampling and student performances. The foods was prepared by Lizarralde using locally-sourced ingredients and Sprout Garden harvest.

The Theater Department’s fall main stage production, “Set Zero,” by Mashuq Mushtaq Deen, was directed by Associate Professor of Theater Kenny Prestininzi in Tansill Theater and ran Oct. 18-20. In this metaphoric play, a family of mathematicians work all day in the pursuit of an equation that cannot be resolved. While they do so, they confront ideas of love, duty, death and how knowledge is passed on from one generation to the next. The production starred Mia Rubino ’25, Ava Mary Aloia ’26, Amanda Brady ’25, Nadia Hopkins ’25, Lucas Vasquez ’26, Giuseppe Piccirilli ’25 and Ryan Brearley ’28.

Connecticut College hosted a debate between the two candidates for the 2nd Congressional District, Democratic incumbent Joe Courtney and Republican challenger Mike France in Evans Hall on Oct. 10. The debate was co-sponsored by The Day, WFSB-TV and Camels Vote, a nonpartisan campus initiative that promotes voting and civic engagement. The Day’s Lee Howard served as the moderator, and panelists included The Day’s opinion page editor Owen Poole; WFSB’s chief political reporter Susan Raff; and Sophia Williams ’26, ambassador of Camels Vote. Connecticut College President Andrea Chapdelaine delivered opening remarks.

The Clothesline Project is a visual display of sexual violence statistics that often go ignored. Each shirt is made by a survivor of violence or by someone who has lost a loved one to violence. The purpose of the project is to increase awareness of the impact of violence and abuse, to honor a survivor’s strength to continue, and to provide another avenue for them to courageously break the silence that often surrounds their experience.

The Men’s Club Ice Hockey team took on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in the annual New London rivalry game. The Camels won 4-2.

David Dorfman Dance, Conn’s company-in-residence, performs “truce songs” during a dress rehearsal in the Athey Center at Palmer Auditorium. A meditation on the perils of peace and power, “truce songs” mines the depths of our power-crazed world, looking for our foibles and relentlessly searching for joy.
