FALL/WINTER 2024

Each month we offer a variety of programs to inspire, teach and engage. All Connecticut College Arboretum programs are open to the public and many of our programs are free or available at a discounted rate with membership and for current Connecticut College students. Some programs require registration to confirm your spot. Email arbor@conncoll.edu if you need assistance.

Free Guided Tours

Free guided tours of the Native Plant Collection are offered at 10 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month from May-October.

Free guided tours of the Caroline Black Garden are offered at 10 a.m. on the second Sunday of each month from May-October.

Meet at the entrance to the Caroline Black Garden. Parking is located behind the Vinal Cottage at approx. 4 Winchester Avenue (the first driveway on the right on Winchester Avenue, New London CT). 

 

Mamacoke Island Shoreline Bird Walk

Designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society, Mamacoke Island and the surrounding bodies of water, are home to a diverse array of bird species. Located on the Thames River, this natural area within the Connecticut College Arboretum also offers a stunning geological experience, as cliffs rise dramatically from the center of the island, and numerous geological features can be seen throughout. Join CT Audubon’s Joe Attwater as we explore the unique history of this important bird habitat, and search for birds on the river.
 
Meet and park at the east end of Benham Avenue (Waterford) just before the railroad tracks. There are several parking spaces in a gravel lot at approximately 44 Benham Ave, Waterford 06375.
 
It is recommended that participants have appropriate footwear for traversing the trail across the salt marsh (muddy/wet).

Nature Printmaking

THIS PROGRAM IS FULL

DATE: Wednesday, September 18, 2024

4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This program is open to Connecticut College Arboretum members and current Connecticut College students.

COST: FREE. Registration required; space is limited to the first 20 participants.

 

REGISTER HERE

Using printmaking foam, create beautiful landscapes, flowers and patterns which will then be inked up with special paint and rolled out onto colorful papers. Finished prints resemble wood block carving prints. Each participant will be able to make multiple prints to bring home. 

The class will be held in Buck Lodge in the Native Plant Collection. Please plan to arrive at the Williams Street entrance of the Native Plant Collection a few minutes before class start time so you have ample time to walk to Buck Lodge.

Pick up your pre-ordered plants and/or shop the selection of member-donated native plants!
Members of the Connecticut College Arboretum or Wild Ones Mt. Laurel Chapter enjoy the benefit of being able to shop one hour early during the members-only preview hour from 3 - 4 p.m. on Friday.
